SQL Readiness Review

Database Readiness Service

The Quantix Database Readiness service is designed to cover the following 3 primary areas of concern when migrating or upgrading to SQL 2008:

1) Review of all database components to ensure that table design and T-SQL design are compatible with SQL Server 2008.
2) Analysis of existing applications, any enhancements or ad-hoc amendments that have been made.
3) Discussions with users to see if there have been any underlying performance problems.

Security
Review existing security set up to provide details of issues when migrating to SQL Server 2008. This will cover the following

• Database ownership
• Object ownership (now implemented as Schemas in SQL Server 2008)
• Administrator connection
• Admin accounts
• Use of windows accounts
• Password policies
• Encryption (keys and certificates)
• Hardware

Review existing hardware set up and how to best use this for SQL Server 2008. Is it future proof, how does it scale & how does it perform under the current version?

Licensing
Review business requirements and identify the correct version of SQL Server 2008 and most cost effective licensing model.
