ExchangeCloud: How it Works

ExchangeCloud Architecture

ExchangeCloud is delivered from the Quantix Nimbus-Q platform, a highly resilient cloud infrastructure that is optimized for critical application and database delivery. Delivered from multiple UK sites with 24x7 platform support, you can be sure your service is being delivered from one of the most scalable and secure platforms available.

The ExchangeCloud concept is simple; dedicated servers are provisioned within Nimbus-Q based on Microsoft best practice of an Exchange 2010 deployment, with a domain controller deployed to ensure a completely integrated Active Directory across the solution.

In front of this is included an award winning SaaS mail filtering solution, and behind backups of your mailstore which are retained for at least one year.

How do users connect to ExchangeCloud?

Head Office - For complete integration it is recommended that your business WAN is extended into Nimbus-Q typically via SSL VPN. In this way you the ExchangeCloud solution acts exactly as your own dedicated Exchange infrastructure would, but as a 24x7 Managed platform with the highly resilient features that you require.

Remote Office - Again, an SSL VPN can create a permanent connection or individual users can connect via RPC over HTTPs for complete flexibility.

Roaming User  - RPC over HTTPs will allow a remote user to connect to the ExchangeCloud platform without loading up a cumbersome VPN client or worrying about client office firewalls.

Home User  - Where infrequent access is required, the Outlook Web Access client in Exchange 2010 is incredible in its features and an excellent replacement for the full fat Outlook client.

Mobile Devices - ExchangeCloud supports virtually all mobile devices, including the ability to deploy a BlackBerry Enterprise Server or synchronise via Exchange ActiveSync. Android and iPhone users are also fully supported.

Thin Client Access - Where the full fat Outlook client is now appropriate, the Outlook Web Access client in Exchange 2010 is incredible in its features and particularly in a Remote Desktop or Citrix environment becomes a very simply method of deployment and support.

How do I administer my ExchangeCloud environment?

As ExchangeCloud is a 24x7 Managed Environment, the burden of platform, OS & application management is mostly removed from your IT team, and one of the many reasons it provides such a good return on investment. Where administration is still required, such as mailbox permissions or storage allocation, there are two main methods of administration:

Exchange Management Console - This is an MMC snap-in in Exchange 2010 that we provide relevant access to your IT team to work with

Exchange Control Panel - This is a web accessible Exchange control panel that is found in extended pages of Outlook Web Access. Rights to use this are given at administrator level and can only be seen by the relevant members of your organisation
